Organic cotton clothing is manufactured out of cotton grown without pesticides or chemical insecticides. It's also produced from cotton plants which may have not been genetically modified.

In my opinion that organic cotton is right for clothing for environmental and humanitarian reasons and i believe organic cotton clothing is best for a child's sensitive skin.

When cotton is produced, more chemicals are utilized per unit area than some other crop - making up 16% from the world's pesticides ("Picking Cotton Carefully," Institute of Science in Society, March 2007).

These harmful chemicals cause water and air pollution, polluting the land, killing animals and plants, and causing illness and even death for farmers and workers.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 20,000 deaths occur in developing countries annually from poisoning by agricultural pesticides used on crops, which many, due to their relative toxicity, can be related to cotton. In Benin in West Africa, 24 people died because of poisoning from cotton pesticides in 2000 - this included 11 children younger than 10. (Information from The Soil Association)

Growing organic cotton without chemicals means that it's not only safer for the farmers and workers who grow and harvest the crops however the land is not damaged by over utilization of chemicals as well as the farming is a lot more sustainable in the long term.

Organic farming uses crop rotation around the farmland and natural fertilisers as opposed to chemicals and artificial fertilizers. Biological bug control (using one species to eat the species destroying the crop), is used rather than harmful chemical alternatives.

In addition to being better for that environment, organic cotton is frequently bought directly from the farmer or a local co-operative. This means a fairer deal plus more income from your crop for individuals who farm it.
